With the necessary paperwork completed, the veteran defender was unveiled at the Spurs Lodge training ground overnight.
Nelsen, who will wear number 33 for the North London outfit, is aware of the challenge facing him at a club featuring international defenders Michael Dawson, Ledley King, William Gallas and Younes Kaboul but is relishing the opportunity to earn a place in the side.
“I kind of like it when the odds are stacked against you, so we’ll see,” Nelsen says. “I’ll get out there and give it everything.”
Spurs assistant coach Kevin Bond has hailed the new arrival and revealed Nelsen could be included for Tottenham’s visit to Anfield midweek.
“He is fit and eligible to play on Monday,” Bond says.
“I’ve just had a cup of tea with him in the canteen. He is looking forward to the challenge.
“They [Nelsen and fellow new recruit Louis Saha] are the right characters. Having those type of characters in the dressing room and the training ground will be really important for us.
“The type of people they are, I think they can make an important difference. I think that experience and that know-how of having been there before is important.”
