Following the formation of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), preparations are well underway for the tournament which is set to be hosted in Luganville on the island of Santo in Vanuatu.
On Monday the Mangoe community in Luganville joined forces with a local youth group to dig out unwanted patches of grass from the field before mud and sand were poured on top.
Ties with communities close to the stadium are strong, with many locals volunteering their time to help prepare the grounds.
Following this week’s work, grass seedlings will be spread and their progress monitored in the lead up to the event’s kick-off.
The LOC has representatives overseeing all of the ground work and are pleased the community have gotten behind the project.
Meanwhile, the Luganville Football Association’s championship, normally held on field one at Chapuis Stadium, has been relocated to field two to accommodate the on-going work.
