Members of the 35-strong squad announced earlier this month for a series of friendly matches are taking part in the week-long camp at the Dr Sahu Khan National Football Academy in Ba.
A total of 18 players were present on the first day, including the likes of star striker Roy Krishna, futsal international Kamal Hassan and O-League representative Alvin Avinesh, and a further eight players are expected to join the camp before its conclusion on Friday.
The side is set to line-up against Tahiti, Vanuatu and Solomon Islands, who are all sending squads to Fiji in July as each looks to finalise their plans for the Pacific Games.
The clashes will be a vital part of Fiji’s preparations for the tournament in Noumea and Ali says there is plenty of hard work in store for his charges.
“We have included some players from the extended Pacific Games squad because Ba players will not be part of this camp and the upcoming international tests,” he says.
“The first session was a light one as the players have just come back from their district competition. But we will now step up to three sessions a day. The squad will break camp on Friday and we will try to get the boys back on July 8.”
