Vanuatu international striker Joseph Namariau will strengthen Suva’s strike force in the return leg of the champion versus champion series in Fiji.

Suva Football Association secretary Rajnesh Singh said Namariau would join training on Tuesday.

“We’ve booked his airline ticket and he will be in Fiji on Tuesday,” Singh said.

Namariau was to feature for Suva in the first leg but his arrival was delayed because of family commitments. Namariau had a quiet U20 campaign with the Vanuatu international team in Auckland last January but will be keen to rediscover the striking form that made him such a popular figure in Fijian club football in the past year.

The Vanuatu national is best remembered for scoring crucial goals to help the capital city side make last year’s Battle of the Giants final.

The University of the South Pacific scholar finished joint top scorer in the BOG with Ba ace Josaia Bukalidi.

Namariau will partner fellow countryman, Soromon Suele up front, Suele created debutant Alvin Prakash’s equalizer in the first leg and proved a handful for Ba defenders in the 1-1 draw.

Suele was among the leading scorers in the last IDC and the experienced finishers will be supported by crafty central midfielder Saimata Chillia, Suva’s third recruit from Vanuatu.

Chillia scored Suva’s second on the stroke of fulltime but the goal was flagged down by the linesman.

Meanwhile six key Suva players face suspension from all level of football for misconduct and bringing disrepute to the association and the Fiji Football Association.

Singh said Fiji U20 skipper Esava Naqeleca who won the junior footballer of the year award on Saturday night and goalkeeper Vereti Dixon were charged for not turning up.

“The first leg was deferred because Fiji FA considered our request that key players were on national duty and while other U20 players came, Esava and Vereti opted out without notifying officials,” he said.

Also facing the music will be central defenders Rupeni Tabua and Akariva Dau together with striker Maciu Dunadamu and star midfielder Dinesh Mudaliar.

“They have been charged for misconduct,” he said.

The six players will appear before the Suva executives in a special meeting at the Fiji Olympic House on Thursday night.

The return leg of the Pillay’s Garments sponsored series is scheduled for 3pm at Govind Park.
