9th edition of Challenge Benjamins has global flair

As they have over the past eight editions, the channel is once again throwing its support behind the nation’s burgeoning young footballers.
This year Challenge Benjamins Canal + 2014 is set to deliver half-days of 100% Foot to 11-12 year-olds all over the country.
Fast becoming an institution of football in New Caledonia, the event will travel to the north and south of the main island, passing through the Loyalty Islands – with three stages in the islands scheduled for this edition.
“Once again Canal+ Calédonie is supporting Caledonian football and the Challenge Benjamins programme provides an opportunity for us to share great moments of sport with the young footballers, male and female, of the territory,” says Valérie Raffin, communications manager at Canal+ Calédonie.
“The ninth edition is distinctive because it coincides with the 20th anniversary of Canal + in New Caledonia.
For FCF the partnership continues to prove fruitful to the development of football.
“As everyone knows, football is an entity for the channel Canal + and New Caledonian football is lucky to be able to take advantage of the unique support from Canal + Calédonie and the engagement with young Caledonians which has been in place for nine years,” says FCF’s Mathieu Delcroix.
The festival will hit the sandy isle of Ouvea first up on 28 June before visiting Lifou on 12 July and Mare the 26 July. Paita is the next stop on 9 August before the fifth and final stop in Canala on 6 September.
“This year the Challenge will play on the World Cup. We will form teams of five which will be named after a country competing at the World Cup,” says Delcroix.
“Each team will experience different activities like in the previous season when we offered the Festi-Foot to children – who could play football, futsal and also beach soccer.”
In total, no less than 500 “Benjamins” are expected to take part in the 2014 edition of the event. Each participant will receive a football, sports bag, T-shirt, cap, drink bottle, shorts and a pair of socks, generously donated by Canal + Caledonie.
