Tonga Football Association (TFA) in partnership with Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) will conduct its first four day youth football coach’s course aimed at developing and enhancing local coaches’ knowledge and skills with a focus on youth level (13-18yrs).

This workshop will start 23-26 June under the observation of OFC’s Technical Director Mr Jim Selby at Loto Tonga Soka centre in ‘Atele.

TFA’s General Secretary ‘Ahongalu Fusimalohi said such an initiative is beneficial for the development of football in the Kingdom, especially as football growth is at its early development stage.

“Tonga is in need of competent coaches to ensure young talents are developed to their fullest potentials in order to produce quality sporting performances” he said. According to Mr. Fusimalohi, to progressively produce professional players for the country, Tonga Football needs to focus and invest in the young generation as they are the country’s future, hence the need to train coaches.

The workshop is for coaches of youth clubs and will be facilitated by TFA’s Technical Director, Kilifi Uele and Youth Development Officer, Lui Muavesi who are both OFC and TFA instructors.

The duo recently undertook OFC’s youth instructor course in Fiji, and will be assessed by OFC’s Mr Jim Selby as practical component towards attaining their OFC Youth Instructors certificate.

TFA’s 16 club coaches will participate to gain official recognition as Youth Coaches.
