Canada has booked its place in the knockout rounds of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with a 6-0 win over Samoa in their second Group D game in Morocco.

Samoa went into the match hoping to cause more surprises following their impressive effort in an opening 4-2 defeat by France.

But the Canadians who defeated Nigeria 4-1 in their opening match were dominant from the outset, and produced 42 shots in the match, 15 of which were on target.

“I know it can sound like a defeat but actually it’s a massive win for us in Samoa.” Reflected coach Juan Chang Urrea on FIFA+. “ We play against the best teams in the world so it’s a win for us, and we are going to continue to grow and learn a lot from these matches. Nigeria is a big team in Africa and will be a tough match and we just want to continue to grow and make everyone in Samoa and Oceania proud.” He added.

Samoa round out Group play against Nigeria on Sunday, and would need to win to keep their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages alive, as one of the best third placed teams.
