Tahiti’s domestic cup champions are crowned and Fiji’s top two stumble in this week’s Oceania competitions wrap.

AS Vénus have won Tahiti’s Coupe de Polynésie for a third time in succession after a 2-0 win over AS Dragon over the weekend.

Roonui Tehau’s powerful long-range strike opened the scoring at Stade Pater before Teaonui Tehau chested home from a yard out just before half-time. Those proved to be the only goals of the game, with both teams ending up with 10 men after red cards for Teataura Hauata and Terai Bremond.

The result will feel particularly damaging for Dragon. Just one week ago they lost out on the Ligue 1 title on the final day of the season after defeat to eventual champions AS Pirae.

This trophy will however soften the blow of a third-place league finish for Vénus. They will now kick off their OFC Champions League campaign against Solomon Islands representative Central Coast FC on Thursday, August 4 in high spirits.

The cup win also qualifies Vénus to French football’s domestic cup, the Coupe de France, where they will enter in the seventh round in November.

Rewa FC dropped points at the top of Fiji’s Digicel Premier League but Suva FC could not gain immediate ground as they suffered a shock result at bottom side Nasinu FC.

Rewa, who will be competing in the OFC Champions League next month in Auckland, were held to a 2-2 draw with Nadi FC but Suva could only manage a 1-1 draw v the basement club.

Suva still have a game in hand on leaders Rewa and are three points back.

Lautoka have closed the gap to just one point in third after an exciting 4-3 triumph over Ba FC.

Labasa FC beat Nadroga FC 1-0 while Tailevu Naitasiri FC and Navua FC drew in the weekend’s other games.

Only two games took place in New Caledonia’s Super Ligue this weekend, Qanono Sport beating AS Lössi 2-1 while SC Ne Drehu and AS Mont-Dore shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
