This weekend sees the beginning of our OFC Champions League National Playoffs, which will determine which club represents their country at the OFC Champions League 2023.
Held across the Pacific region, the playoffs are in a two-legged format where the winner will be determined by aggregate, then if the scores are tied, the games will go to extra time.
The action starts on February 11, when Hekari United FC and Lae City FC clash.
The same day, New Caledonian champions Tiga Sport take on last year’s OFC Champions League representative Heinghène Sport. Defending champions Auckland City FC face Wellington Olympic next month to determine New Zealand’s spot in the competition.
Auckland have just returned from appearing in the FIFA World Club Cup, which they qualified for after winning the OFC Champions League 2022. Their 3-0 win over AS Venus of Tahiti in the final sealed that title and they will be hoping to be making another appearance at a tournament they have won an astounding 10 times.
All three of those fixtures will have the return leg played on the following weekend.
AS Dragon and AS Pirae face each other in Tahiti’s National Playoff, with their fixtures down for February 17-24 The remaining fixtures in Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji take place between February 22 and 26.
Clubs from Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga and American Samoa will playoff in a tournament to determine the last OFC Champions League 2023 spot. This will be held in Apia on 18-24 February.
