The meeting will take place on Friday at the Dateline Hotel’s conference room and will be attended by FIFA Vice President and OFC President Reynald Temarii and OFC General Secretary Tai Nicholas, as well as the other committee members.
The executives will deliberate on a range of OFC issues and strategies, including the organisation’s current financial position and matters relating to competitions, technical development and social responsibility.
The meeting will also coincide with the inauguration of TFA’s FIFA Goal III project, a development that has resulted in an extension of the association’s facilities to include accommodation and an upgrade of the No 2 pitch, which has now been sand-carpeted and installed with an irrigation system.
TFA General Secretary and OFC executive member Ahongalu Fusimalohi says 2010 has been a momentous year in all aspects of football developments locally and the association is honoured to host the region’s governing body on Tongan soil.
“The meeting will definitely strengthen our developments in Tonga and the region as a whole,” Fusimalohi says.
“There continues to be investment in football here and since Tonga has recently piloted OFC’s grassroots development programme, Just Play, this will be a golden opportunity for the Executive Committee to witness first hand its success and growth.”
OFC is the umbrella organisation of the national football associations within Oceania. Located at the Charles J. Dempsey Football Academy at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, OFC has 11 member associations which it supports financially and logistically through various programmes.
OFC is the smallest of the world’s six confederations but is an active participant within the FIFA football family. Along with AFC in Asia, CAF in Africa, CONCACAF in North/Central America and the Caribbean, CONMEBOL in South America and UEFA in Europe, OFC works to provide support to football’s international governing body.
The OFC Executive Committee is responsible for implementing OFC statutes and decisions of the OFC Congress. It must also ratify all decisions made by OFC Standing Committees and judicial bodies.
The sporting and political decisions of this important governing body ensure the well-being of football in the Pacific.
The delegation is expected to arrive in Tonga on Wednesday. Tonga first hosted an OFC Executive Committee meeting in 2002.
