Both sides entered the match still in search of the first win after suffering disappointing losses on match day one of the 2012 O-League.
Mont-Dore took the lead in their first game against Ba before falling to a 2-1 reversal while Tefana endured an even worse fate, succumbing 10-0 to Waitakere United to make an unwanted piece of history.
The thumping was the highest ever winning margin in the history of the O-League and left Tefana in great need of a positive performance against Mont-Dore to get their campaign back on track.
That’s exactly what the side delivered for coach Laurent Heinis as an 82nd-minute equaliser from midfielder Hiva Kamoise earned them the 1-1 draw at Stade Numa Daly that restored some pride to the ranks and resulted in a point being brought back to Tahiti.
In contrast, Mont-Dore coach Thierry Sardo will be disappointed not to have pocketed all three after seeing his side take the lead in the 71st minute of a tense match through striker Michel Hmae but fail to kept that advantage in tact for the remainder of the game.
The home side’s frustration at that failure boiled over in the 83rd minute when Rony Atti was dismissed.
The result means Mont-Dore and Tefana have now gotten off the mark on the table but, despite playing one more game, still lag behind first round winners Waitakere and Ba.
Tefana’s next match is at home to Ba on December 2 while Mont-Dore host Waitakere the day after.
