Vakatalesau found the back of the net with a penalty and set up another goal to help Hekari United post a 4-2 win over Besta United in the Papua New Guinea national league yesterday.
The Port Moresby-based club signed the imposing striker well before the 2011 O-League began in October but have not been able to play their new signing as his previous Fijian club Lautoka disputed the transfer.
But the matter was resolved earlier this week and the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has now issued Vakatalesau with an international transfer certificate.
That means Vakatalesau can join the five other Fijians in the team – Pita Bolaitoga, Tuimasi Manuca, Malakai Tiwa, Alvin Singh and Simione Tamanisau – in representing Hekari at the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2010, which takes place in Abu Dhabi from December 8 to 14.
He is delighted to finally be able to show what he can do in Hekari colours.
“I have been here for the last three months,” he says. “Taking the field and scoring my first goal for the club is a great feeling.”
Vakatalesau can’t wait to perform on the biggest club stage in the world.
“I will make the best out of the trip for Hekari and, of course, as a Fijian I will be doing my best to perform to the best of my ability during the club championship in Abu Dhabi.”
