Cultural performances will be held each night during the conference and already delegations were showing off their talents with singing and haka performances this afternoon.
CEO Franck Castillo, who also works as OFC Head of Social Development, says the conference is an opportunity for participants to share in celebrating their culture.
“We want to encourage participants to take pride in their culture,” said Castillo, who also works as Head of Social Responsibilty at OFC.
“It’s important for them to know they have a voice in society, and that building a better future is in their hands.”
Organised by OFC together with the Manukau City Council, PYASC represents a partnership between various stakeholders whose common goal is to assemble the youth of the region to see how sport can build a better Pacific.
The conference will include seminars, workshops and rountables that will be based around four central themes including: health; education and capacity building; citizenship and good governance; social integration and anti-discrimination.
At the conclusion, OFC will hold a meeting involving Sports Ministers from across the region who can adopt the strategies that are born during the event.
