Brazilian coach Juliano Schmeling, who travelled with the Solomon Islands to Thailand as a technical advisor in 2012, has joined the Kurukuru as head coach.
While he’s looked around he’s opted to bring a large majority of previous caps back for the side’s title-defence in Fiji. Elliot Ragomo is a record-setter who has worked hard to get himself healthy and fit for this competition after some recent health and injury woes, and will be looking to make a significant impact for his side.
In New Zealand coach Scott Gilligan has been working hard over the past four years to establish a strong foundation, with several newer caps adding some flair. This side has had it’s sights set on Colombia 2016 for some time and anything less isn’t an option. The side is an interesting mix of backgrounds which creates a good balance within the squad.
The OFC Futsal Championship Invitationals held in 2013 and 2014 helped a number of sides not only get some international experience against a mix of OFC and AFC teams, but it was also an opportunity to try some new things.
Tahiti made some sweeping changes between 2013 and 2014 and as we approach February’s world cup qualifier we can see they’ve used both experiences to help create a squad they believe capable to taking the title.
