However the keeper is fiercely proud of her abilities and the chance to once again represent her country at the highest order.
“I had my youngest son in May and when I got the call up to the team it was really hard because I was aware that I will be leaving my five month old at home to join the Tonga team preparations,” Likiliki says.
“But after a while the excitement of being a player brought back my enthusiasm and passion for this, my number one game.”
Likiliki says her approach to the game has changed since she became a mother as she knows she needs to be fit for each of the roles she has in life.
“Being a mother I try to be super fit to do my duty at home, my job and be a player.”
Fortunately she’s surrounded by a dedicated group of women just as passionate about the round ball as she is herself.
“Since I joined the team I knew for sure that they’re dedicated, committed and full of desire,” Likiliki says.
“They made a big sacrifice in order to take such a long time away from home preparing for this upcoming Women’s Nations Cup.”
No stranger to the highest level of women’s regional football, Likiliki says her fondest memory is the 2007 OFC Women’s Nations Cup held in Lae, also in Papua New Guinea.
“When the crowd cheered and called my name during games, including when we played against PNG was so memorable,” she says.
“Even everywhere around Lae they called and cheered for me.”
With a big task ahead, Likiliki is looking forward to taking on the defending champions New Zealand on the opening day of competition.
“The team has set itself the goal of beating Papua New Guinea, but my personal objectives for the competition are just to be as successful as possible,” she says.
“I really respect New Zealand as an opponent. I know they’re the champions but I will be doing my best as I’m representing my beloved country.
“I have found it hard coming back into the environment of an elite athlete, but I am doing this for my king and country. I want to do them proud.
“It’s going to be difficult but I’ve put in a lot of effort to get fit and hopefully that, combined with my experience, will help Tonga to be as successful as possible in this competition.”
Tonga open the 2014 OFC Women’s Nations Cup against New Zealand at Kalabond Oval in Kokopo on Saturday 25 October at 11am.
