National air carrier Solomon Airlines have donated 18 training shirts to the squad and officially handed them over during a training session this week at DC Park.
Speaking at the ceremony, Solomon Airlines marketing manager Vivian Wickham said the donation highlights the partnership between the airline and football.
“Solomon Airlines is one of the three major partners of the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF) and in this instance we are happy once again to show our support to the national beach soccer team,” Wickham said. “As a corporate citizen Solomon Airlines looks forward to supporting our national teams in this manner.”
Bilikiki team manager Reuben Oimae thanked Solomon Airlines for the assistance and said that the team members will proudly wear the colours of the national air carrier during training and when travelling to the championship.
“A big thank you goes to Solomon Airlines for this show of support, we truly appreciate their assistance,” Oimae said.
The handover had extra meaning as Wickham is a former coach and player of the Bilikiki team and represented the Solomon Islands in seven internationals, including three at the 2006 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Brazil.
The Bilikiki is scheduled to leave the country for Tahiti next Friday.
