The striker cannot link up with the club yet as he has commitments in New Zealand, where he has been living and playing for some time, but has made clear his desire to put pen to paper during the transfer window at the turn of the year.
“I really would like for play for Koloale as they are a well organised club with players who play a very good style of football,” he says.
Koloale, who are set to embark on their second consecutive season of O-League action, have acknowledged Fifi’i’s intention to sign and are keen for the pint-sized attacker to be involved in the second half of their campaign.
“We respect his decision not to join us yet and we will certainly welcome him to the team when the transfer window opens,” Koloale vice-president Timothy Aruafu says.
The skilful Fifi’i, who stands at just 160cm, will bring a wealth of experience to the team after starring for several clubs during his time in New Zealand.
National league sides Canterbury United and Team Wellington – where he was joined in the squad by fellow Solomon Islander Andrew Abba – have both benefited from his talents, as have Wairarapa United and Stop Out in the local leagues.
The 23-year-old has represented his country at all levels and was a member of the Bonitos national team squad that finished runners-up in the XIV Pacific Games this month in New Caledonia.
While Fifi’i seems certain to join Koloale, another player likely to be heading in the other direction is Joses Nawo. The midfielder has been a key part of the side’s domestic success and was also a mainstay of the Bonitos line-up at the Games.
But he appears to have played his last match for Koloale for the time being and is in the process of signing for Vanuatu club Amicale, who finished runners-up in last season’s O-League.
Koloale have compensated somewhat for the loss of Nawo by recruiting Clifton Aumae, who is studying at the University of Papua New Guinea but is expected to join in time for the Men in Green’s first O-League match against Auckland City.
The clash with the defending champions takes place at Lawson Tama Stadium in Honiara on October 29 from 3pm.
Koloale have been drawn in Group B of the 2012 O-League and will also face Amicale and 2010 winners Hekari United.
