The west Auckland side travelled to Vanuatu for their Leg 1 semi-final last week and recorded a 2-0 away win, giving them the advantage going into Leg 2 at their home ground of Fred Taylor Park.
However despite having the hurdles of playing away and an aggregate deficit to overcome, Amicale captain Nelson Sale does not believe it will be impossible for his side to make the 19 May final in Auckland.
“After watching the DVD of our loss to Waitakere, I think the chances of us reaching the final are 50-50. We made two silly mistakes and they scored but I think we really played well in the second half,” Sale says.
“Both are strong teams with different types of players. We know some of their players so it will be a very strong match in New Zealand on Sunday. Waitakere are a good team but we also have a good team and we must not be afraid to play them.”
Sale says the team’s objective is to get the away result which will earn them passage into the final.
“We expect to play well and win away and we will give everything until the final whistle has blown. We must not make too many technical mistakes like what we did last Saturday in Port Vila,” he says.
“At the end of the day we are still alive in the competition and we will give our best this Sunday in New Zealand.”
