The AllStars, an initiative that is now in its fourth edition, will also take on ASB Premiership team Waikato and will be coached by Bay Olympic’s Shane Knowles and Birkenhead United’s Paul Hobson.
The squad has a fresh look to it with only four players featuring who have been included in any of the previous incarnations of the team.
Midfielder Aaron Bawdekar (Metro) was a member of the inaugural side in 2008, strikers Jared Colligan (Mt Albert-Ponsonby) and Kyosuke Kitano (Eastern Suburbs) were part of the 2009 squad and fellow forward Colin Gardyne (Bay Olympic) featured in the 2010 team. Knowles was also part of the coaching staff for the 2008 side.
Of the squad’s 27 players, 11 have earned their spots automatically via opposition coach voting during the season for the player of the month/player of the year awards, while the remaining selections were made by coaches Knowles and Hobson.
The golden boot winners for two of the three men’s divisions were originally included in the side with men’s Premier League leading scorer Gardyne joining first division golden boot winner Allan Pearce. However, Pearce is unavailable due to ASB Premiership commitments.
Colligan, the second leading scorer in the men’s second divison with 20 goals, was one of the 11 automatic selections as the division’s June player of the month.
A number of other players were in a similar position to Pearce as either automatic or AllStars coach selections unavailable due to ASB Premiership commitments.
Nine of the players in the squad played the 2011 season in the Lotto NRFL Men’s Premier League, 11 featured in the first division competition while seven competed in the second division.
