The pair received their FIFA badges in 2004 and regularly oversee FFAS National League matches.
Aliva has a string of OFC appointments to his name – the most recent being the OFC U-17 Championship Preliminary held in January in neighbouring Samoa – and both worked the 2011 Pacific Games in New Caledonia.
But neither has taken charge during an international match on home soil.
For the Football Federation American Samoa it is a huge honour to have the country’s top two officials appointed at the first OFC tournament to be held in the territory.
“This is a proud moment for our association to have our best referees, Uinifareti Aliva and Lemusa Alatasi, included as match officials for an OFC tournament for the first time under the FFAS umbrella, FFAS CEO Tavita Taumua says.
“I believe strongly in them and their ability to do during this tournament as they have consistently been the best football officials in our association for several years.”
Aliva is one of five referees appointed for the competition and is looking forward to being involved.
“It is a very proud moment for me to be appointed for this tournament and I welcome the challenge of showcasing my knowledge of the FIFA Laws of the Game with my fellow colleagues,“ Aliva says.
Meanwhile Alatasi will be one of five assistants running the lines and believes it is a good chance to continue to hone his skills.
“I am very thankful for this opportunity,” he says. “I’m looking forward to it.”
The OFC Champions League Preliminary will see the top club sides from Tonga, Samoa, Cook Islands and hosts American Samoa compete for the final berth in the OFC Champions League 2014.
The Preliminary is being held at Pago Park Soccer Stadium in the American Samoa capital of Pago Pago from 15-19 October.
