Vanuatu Football Federation welcomed the first ever FIFA/OFC Player Development seminar led by FIFA Instructors Didier Chambaron and Hansruedi Hasler and Jacquemet believes it was a constructive moment for Oceania football.
‘’We had a very productive week. The feedback from the participants and Hansruedi were very positive. He had successfully understood the Oceania challenge and he shared with us his experience and knowledge,’’ says Jacquemet.
The Player Development programme remains a key project for the Technical Department.
‘’We have really clear objectives to reach with the Member Association Technical Directors.
“We push forward the Player Development to give the young players of the region the opportunity to express themselves and improve their skills in the best way’.
Following the seminar, the OFC Member Associations met for a one day workshop.
‘’Every year all the Member Associations meet to review the work done and the activities around OFC and FIFA,’’ Jacquemet says.
This year’s workshop has been an opportunity to bring to the fore a new topic: communication.
‘’In this last workshop we have clearly insisted on the communication.
‘’We are all scattered and far away from each other due to geographical spread and it is not so easy to meet face to face. We have to improve our communication that is why we put in place a protocol’,” he says.
The protocol consists of a regular report between the OFC Technical Department and the Technical Directors in the Member Associations.
‘’It is essential for us to follow closely the development of the activities in the Associations. So we ask them to send us a report every four months,” he says.
The workshop was also an ideal opportunity to gather all the Technical Directors and share and work together on the development of football in the Oceania region.
‘’I’m waiting for feedback from the Member Association Technical Directors and it is also important we all share.
“I want everybody involved in the development of football in the region. We all need to work together’ if we want to see the game evolve successfully and realise its potential,” Jacquemet says.
The workshop was a rare chance to work on the Technical objectives for the upcoming year, a year where player development, coaches’ courses and elite football are hot topics for the technical department.
‘’We have developed our activity this year around three main pillars: player development, coaching courses and elite football.
“But we also have to keep our focus on women’s football, futsal and beach soccer.’
‘’The realisation of these projects will go through a real team work between OFC and the associations,” he says.
