We’re now just five days from kick-off in the biggest futsal event in Oceania and William Bret’s side are itching to get underway.
“Physically, the boys are ready,” Bret insists.
“We have been working hard throughout the year so there are no concerns in that area.”
While they’re as ready to peak in terms of their fitness, Bret believes there are a few niggly things that need working on in regards to their on-court approach.
“What we need now is just to work a little more on the game, to perfectly master our tactical approach. That’s where the game is played.”
It’s a task that the coaching staff aren’t fretting over too much knowing that their line-up is largely made up of players from the two leading New Caledonia Futsal Super Ligue clubs FC Ferrand and Olympique.
“We’re going to Fiji as warriors, to win and qualify, even it we know that it’s going to be difficult because the standard is so high,” Bret says.
New Caledonia will open their 2016 OFC Futsal Championship againsts host Fiji on 8 February with a key match-up against the defending champions Solomon Islands the following day.
