The FA course instructors, officials from the Solomon Islands Football Federation (SIFF), members of the media and course participants attended the closing ceremony, which wrapped up the eight-day long programme – the first ever FA Level 3 coaching licence course to be delivered in the Solomon Islands.
Several speeches were given, including one each from SIFF president Martin Alufurai and head instructior Geoffrey Pike.
Alufurai used his address to thank the FA for being a close development partner to SIFF and praised the quality of the training that has been delivered to Solomon Islanders since the courses were introduced in 2007.
“FA coaching courses have contributed greatly to the development of football in Solomon Islands,” he said. “I am sure that this year’s course will help raise the standard of football further in this country.”
Pike thanked SIFF for the opportunity to work with coaches in the Solomons and commended the coaches for their commitment to the sessions.
“Without your commitment our job would be extremely hard but you have made it quite easy over the last week,” he said.
SIFF technical department head Noel Wagapu said that the course had been successful for SIFF and the participants and thanked everybody who had worked hard to achieve such a pleasing outcome.
“I am sure our local coaches have benefitted so much from this course. The level was quite high and I commend them for their hard work to step up to the requirements,” Wagapu said.
“I want to extend my appreciation to the FA instructors who braved the heat and humidity every day. I am sure they will leave behind a legacy for coaching and football development in Solomon Islands.”
