A total of 50,000 have been ordered since the start of individual ticket sales on September 15 with orders arriving from over 20 different countries, including the United States, Japan, South Africa, Australia, Malta and Israel.
Aside from the opening match, the final and the group games involving hosts Germany, other matches have been in particularly high demand, such as the third place play-off in Sinsheim and the four quarter-finals.
“These sales figures once again demonstrate the popularity of the Women’s World Cup among the public in Germany and abroad,” Organising Committee president Steffi Jones says.
“Despite the high demand there is still a good chance of getting a ticket, as the OC Ticket Centre will make further batches available through its online ticket shop. I would advise fans to regularly check our website for ticket offers and updates.”
OFC will have one representative in Germany next year and that place will go to the winners of the OFC Women’s Nations Cup in Auckland, which starts at North Harbour Stadium on Wednesday and runs until October 8.
Sales of individual tickets for the World Cup will continue until December 31 on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.
A total of 700,000 tickets are on general sale for the 32 FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011 matches in the host cities of Augsburg, Berlin, Bochum, Dresden, Frankfurt, Leverkusen, Monchengladbach, Sinsheim and Wolfsburg.
