Amicale’s strong recruitment drive for this competition has caught the eye of everyone but Dragon’s coach Graugnard says he knows how his team have to approach this first game to try to make an impact.
“Amicale have made their intentions clear coming into this competition with a strong recruitment policy,’’ Ludovic Graugnard says.
Amicale have signed three Serbians, one Scot, one Australian and several Solomon Islanders in their pursuit of club glory and Dragon skipper Nicolas Vallar says his team’s attitude will be focused on getting the right result.
‘’We take this first game very seriously. It is our first game in the competition. We have to be serious and concentrated if we expect a positive result at the end,’’ Vallar says.
Dragon qualified for their second OFC champions League in-a-row and suspect the ‘’surprise effect’’ they had last season may not work again in this edition.
‘’We are not an unknown team anymore. We beat Auckland City FC last year in their own environment and we nearly qualified for the semi-finals.
‘’Also Tahiti football have shown what they really can achieve recently and I think our opponents take us more seriously,’’ Graugnard says.
Dragon’s second appearance in the competition couldn’t be more difficult, thrown together with Auckland City FC, Nadi and Amicale.
‘’When I saw the draw, my immediate reaction was it is the group of death,” Graugnard says.
‘’I think the team who will finish first has great chance to reach the final and even win the competition,’’ he adds.
The Group B action today sees also current champions Auckland City taking on Fiji’s Nadi at 4pm (local time) at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

Dragon entre en compétition contre Amicale
L’AS Dragon entre en compétition aujourd’hui puisque les tahitiens affrontent l’équipe vanuataise d’Amicale FC au stade Churchill Park de Lautoka.
Le premier adversaire des tahitiens a fait un recrutement important mais Dragon sait le travail à accomplir pour aborder ce premier match.
‘’Amicale montre clairement ses intentions dans cette compétition avec un recrutement de joueurs d’expérience’’ explique l’entraineur de Dragon Ludovic Graugnard.
‘’Nous prenons ce match contre Amicale très au sérieux. C’est le premier match de la compétition. Il faudra être sérieux et concentré si nous souhaitons commencer sur un résultat positif’’ souligne le capitaine Nicolas Vallar.
Dragon entame sa deuxième campagne de suite et ne fait plus figure d’inconnu dans cette compétition.
‘’Nous ne sommes plus des inconnus. Nous sommes allés gagner sur le terrain d’Auckland City et nous sommes passés prêts des demi-finales la saison passée’’
‘’Les joueurs tahitiens ont aussi montré ce qu’ils étaient capables de faire, et je pense que nous sommes pris plus au sérieux’’ dit Graugnard
Pour leur deuxième campagne, Dragon aura fort à faire avec le champion en titre Auckland City et Nadi qui viennent compléter ce groupe.
‘Quand j’ai eu connaissance du tirage au sort, ma première réaction fut que c’était le groupe de mort’’ explique Graugnard
‘Je pense que le vainqueur de ce groupe a de grandes chances d’aller en finale voire au bout’’ dit-il.
Le Groupe B voit aussi s’affronter aujourd’hui Auckland City et Nadi à 16h (heure locale) au stade Churchill Park de Lautoka.
