The 20-year-old is one of the brightest defensive prospects in the Oceania region and his involvement in the Vanuatu line-up will be a major assett for coach Saby Natonga, who has had to turn to a batch of young stars after being deprived of several more experienced campaigners.
Kaltack, a stand out at the OFC U-20 Championship in Auckland during April, is now based in Wellington and plays for the Waterside Karori club in the Capital Premier League.
He has made the most of his time in New Zealand so far and has even caught the eye of All Whites and Wellington Phoenix coach Ricki Herbert, who has offered him the chance to train with the professional A-League side.
But he is delighted to have returned to Vanuatu and can’t wait to head to New Caledonia for the Games.
“I am very happy to be back home again after a few months in Wellington,” he says.
“I think I have performed well for Waterside Karori and we have moved from 10th to fourth in the table which is very encouraging. I am excited to join the Vanuatu team as many of the players are young like me.”
Kaltack is joined in the squad by cousin Jean Kaltack and fellow youngsters Selonie Iaruel and Eddison Stephen, who all took part in Vanuatu’s bronze-winning campaign at the OFC U-20 Championship.
Yvong August and Kensi Tangis, both 19, have also been included after scoring Vanuatu’s goals in the 2-0 friendly win over Solomon Islands in Port Vila late last month.
Vanuatu play their first match of the XIV Pacific Games against hosts New Caledonia on Saturday at Riviere Salée in Nouméa.
