The former Navua rep believes the onus will be on him to prove his worth against the winless Marist FC on Sunday at 3pm at Churchill Park.
Speaking to Fiji FA Media, Avinesh said the O-League competition will help him to raise his standard.
“I’m looking forward to the match,” he said.
“This will be the first time I will be playing an O-League match. At the moment I do not know what to expect in this match but it will be a good experience for me. I will give one hundred percent to help Lautoka win,” Avinesh said.
The talented midfielder recently helped Lautoka clinch the 2010 Champion versus Champion series for the very first time. Last year he was part of the Navua outfit that won two of the major local tournaments (Vodafone Fiji FACT and Courts Homecenters Inter District Championship).
Avinesh says Lautoka’s first round 3-1 win over Marist FC in the O-League will be a motivating factor for his side.
“Lautoka beat Marist in the first round so we should have the upper hand but we cannot afford to underestimate them. The boys have been training hard and will play their hearts out this Sunday.
“I urge the supporters to come out in numbers and cheer us to victory. In the O-League competition we are not just representing Lautoka but the whole of Fiji,” Avinesh said.
Meanwhile former Auckland City rep Salesh Kumar is all set to join Lautoka on Saturday. Lautoka soccer boss Shalendra Prasad confirmed.
“Salesh will be joining us on Saturday morning. He will be going through a fitness test and if he passes he would be considered in the starting 11. We have heard that he has been doing his own training,” Prasad said.
