Southern Region’s PSSA could not find their way in to score in the first half and LFA took the lead when Sandra Birum scored the opening goal six minutes into the game.
By seeing the toughness of their opponents, team PSSA fought back to equalize but LFA maintained their defense and played it cool and followed with their second goal by Powasu Ikanau three minutes later.
Mrs Natto’s girls pressed harder and this time in the seventeen minutes, captain Bertha Yapi netted her first goal which might have been even better if they have equalized previously. Following that, LFA went on to score their next two goals in the second half to finally defeat the away team by a shocking 5-1 victory.
The hard cash prize money may now be soon given to the home team for this season meaning PSSA will have to work even harder to make it next season.
The men’s final followed an hour later with the two teams keeping a tight defense but with LFA having most of the NSL players playing, they managed to be the first to score. PSSA’s attempts to break through wouldn’t come easily with LFA’s back line keeping a strong shield for the home side.
First half of the men’s final, the LFA dominated it to score the opening goal eighteen minutes into the game when Liam Kohu belted the ball in shouts from the crowd. However with PSSA struggling to equalize, the host team made sure their opponents don’t make it happened. Half way into the first half and yet PSSA couldn’t convert their attempts to goal and the the game remained at 1- nil when the referee signaled for half time.
Coming back into the second half, LFA went on harder while PSSA’s front line also pushed back but couldn’t go further when LFA found a way in to score the second goal
in the 52minute to take the lead with 2 goals to nil.
However a silly mistake by the LFA gave the opportunity to the away team for a penalty kick. Kaonainao Eleajar placed the ball to the LFA’s keeper’s left corner with his penalty kick. The score now stands LFA 2, PSSA 1.
As the clock was ticking for the full time whistle LFA added one more goal, adding to their final score 3- 1.
The young guns from PSSA tried harder but were too late to score any more goals when the final whistle was blown. The home side took home the K20, 000.00 winning the men’s match defeating Port Moresby’s PSSA, 3- 1.
