The final training squad was announced on Monday, following three weeks of trials with the SIFF technical department.
With the side’s participation in May’s OFC U-19 Championship confirmed, the final training squad will now meet three times a week for intensive training as they look to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup being held in New Zealand in 2015.
SIFF offered their thanks to all the players who made effort to attend the trials, and encourage them to continue their development.
While it doesn’t look like national futsal goalkeeper supreme and beach soccer outfielder Anthony Talo will be adding a third FIFA World Cup to his already stellar CV just yet, there are a few names that will stand out.
Egeta and Wetney are names commonly associated with the Solomon Islands national futsal side the Kurukuru, but two different young players are rising through the ranks in the 11-a-side game. Albert Wetney and Raphael Egeta both feature in the list of 27.
Also making an appearance is Atana Fa’arodo Jnr, and if he’s anything like Henry, he’ll be sure to cause a few headaches for the backlines come the tournament.
The Solomon Island’s entry into the OFC U-19 Championship remains unconfirmed, but should they participate, their hardwork with a quality line-up of players is sure to help them achieve their goal of qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
