Despite the continuous torrential rains in the first three months halting work due to high water bed causing flooding, the building contractor has maintained a steady work pace in the last three weeks since the rain subsided.
Governor Muthuvel said he is very privileged and happy to have FIFA and PNGFA establish the Soccer Academy facility for New Guinea Islands Region in Kimbe. He said his government will stand ready to establish as many infrastructure facilities possible for the 2016 games and he appealed to FIFA to support West New Britain to achieve the latter successful.
“We will always be ready to do our part by counter-part funding the any future programs,” he said.
He also expressed his thanks that FIFA and PNGFA will allow other sporting codes to use the facility as a community project without restrictions for Soccer promotion only.
“There will be other codes supported through that facility like volleyball, basketball tennis and so on,” he stressed.
The Kimbe Soccer Academy will be the second in the country but the first to be counter-part funded and to have a partnership with the Provincial Government.
Turner expressed his sincere appreciation on behalf of FIFA and PNGFA to Governor Muthuvel for the support and enthusiasm in co-funding the project.
“It is not easy to go into partnership with the Government but I am sure this is going to be a productive partnership as Papua New Guinea has many potential football players,” he said.
The facility will include, a Conference Room, an Administration block, a gymnasium with its ablution block on the ground floor and accommodation facilities.
