SHARKS 1, STALLIONS 1 (2-1)
Deidra Maalona scored the game’s first goal give minutes into the first half and then went on to miss two clear shots for scores during that period that could have ended the match in regulation.
Samoana also missed a penalty kick in the first half that could have put them up 2-0.
However, the Stallions played resiliently and slowly turned the momentum in their favor.
Coming onside off of a free kick, Elisa Luani beat Samoana’s defenders to the ball that she expertly placed away from the goalie for the equalizer midway through the second half.
Even two, five-minute halves in overtime could not determine a winner so the game had to go to a shootout, which Samoana won with a 2-1 showing.
COUGARS 7, WILDCATS 0
Fa’asao-Marist avenged a season-ending loss to Nu’uuli Voc-Tech with a big, 7-0 win.
The Wildcats played the entire first half with only eight players and at its end the Cougars were leading 3-0. But even with a full squad in the second half, they still could not contain the attacking Fa’asao-Marist team that came out determined to make Tuesday’s championship game.
