Prior to the tournament, OFC commissioned London-based luxury goods company Thomas Lyte to design the new Nations Cup silverware – the first in a series of trophies for use in the Confederation’s wide range of competitions.
The stunning trophy consists of a sphere – upon which a map of the South Pacific is engraved – and three legs, which each have a different motif pattern reflecting the Melanesian, Polynesian and Maori cultures respectively.
Measuring 55cm in height, it has been created entirely from silver plate by Thomas Lyte’s team of expert silversmiths and took 65 hours to complete. The plinth is made from mahogany and is stained to a rich dark finish.
The logos of OFC’s 11 member associations are engraved on the top band of the plinth while the bottom features the OFC logo and a scroll of the past Nations Cup winners.
