Twenty of the 24 nations have already been confirmed for the May/June event and last week’s draw at Sky City determined where the nations will play their group matches.
Today’s 100 days to go marker has now confirmed the popularity of the tournament with all corporate suites and premium dining sold out for the final, well before the tournament kicks-off and with no knowledge of who the likely contenders for the 20 June final match at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland will be.
Local Organising Committee CEO Dave Beeche says that ticket sales are shaping up well.
“The fact that hospitality for the final has been snapped up this far out is an indication that people understand that, whoever makes the final, there will be some outstanding talent on show, a future superstar of the game will likely grace the match and that football at this level will be guaranteed entertainment,” Beeche said.
Before the Draw was announced, 50,000 tickets had already been snapped up for games throughout the tournament. Ticket promotions have been on sale through clubs and the football community since 2014, and tickets are on sale now exclusively to Visa cardholders at FIFA.com/nz2015.? Visa presales close on 24 Feb and tickets go on general sale on 10 March.
“Selling this many tickets to an event before people knew which countries would be playing in which city is great. Now that the Official Draw has been completed people can see some of the great match ups, with only the four African qualifiers, from a tournament next month in Senegal, to be determined.”
This boost comes as the tournament marks 100 days to go with a ‘tongue in cheek’ digital campaign, entitled ‘Think Bigger Balls’ – reminding sports fans enjoying a glorious summer of cricket that the next big show in town is the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The tournament will be hosted by seven New Zealand cities with the opening game to be played at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland on 30 May and the final back at North Harbour on 20 June.
