The four-game suspension of fellow custodian Glen Moss has ended, meaning he would be available to play between the sticks against the South Americans.
Paston was in sublime form behind a strong rearguard led by Ryan Nelsen and a string of world-class saves from the Wellington Phoenix player helped the All Whites pull off one of the biggest upsets of the tournament so far.
At a media session attended by a throng of local, New Zealand and international media, Paston told reporters he was obviously keen to play every game in the World Cup.
“All you can do is chuck your name in the hat and hope the coach pulls it out,” he says.
Paston says he is happy with his current form.
“Obviously in the first game there were a couple of moments which were a little bit nerve wracking but I’m happy with the way I played against Italy and I’m really looking forward to the Paraguay game now.”
Paston says there is pressure on every player to perform and he has tried to prepare as well as possible.
“I hope that’s shown on the pitch.”
Herbert says New Zealand are in a good position with Paston and Moss both available to play against Paraguay but confirmed he would keep faith with Paston.
He also added that he is unlikely to make any changes elsewhere to the starting 11 for the Paraguay match.
Herbert thinks the South Americans are a strong side but believes the All Whites have nothing to be scared of.
“We didn’t fear the Italians, we didn’t fear Slovakia and we won’t fear the Paraguayans,” he says.
