Covering football competitions across Oceania, this role is a unique chance to work in the fast-paced world of sport and help tell the story of football in the South Pacific.

Reporting through to the Media and Communications Manager, you’ll help write about football competitions happening around the region and assist in delivering game coverage for OFC events and tournaments.

Working out of the brand-new Home of Football – Te Kahu o Kiwa in St Johns, Auckland, you’ll be part of a dynamic team and work closely with Member Associations and staff based across the Pacific, as well as OFC’s external partners.

The Company

Responsible for the development and organisation of football across the South Pacific, the OFC is currently made up of 11 Member Associations and two Associate Members, which it supports through a variety of means.

As well as organising regional qualifiers for all FIFA World Cup tournaments, the OFC provides educational expertise to help guide the development of football across all levels from grassroots to elite, while also catering for a range of different roles from coaches and referees to sports administrators.

About the role

You’ll have a keen interest in sport – ideally football – and have a strong understanding of how to report on matches, find interesting stories and assist with in-event media operations.

The right candidate will be comfortable working to deadlines and will enjoy working with people from different cultures and backgrounds. Travel will also be part of this role.

You’ll have a proven track record of: Knowledge or sports (ideally football), published writing, past journalism or comms/PR work, understanding of social media and ability to write compelling stories.

A relevant qualification in a journalism or a communications-related discipline is preferred, but not essential.

The coming years will be demanding but there are many exciting events scheduled on OFC’s calendar, including the opportunity to be part of FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & NZ 2023. The role will require some travel abroad.

  • Proven experience in outputting and editing news copy efficiently to a high standard.
  • Understanding social media and the ability to use various platforms.
  • Excellent written and oral skills.
  • Strong story writing and story-sourcing skills.
  • Passion for football and community activities.
