It took just three minutes for Harry Dinet to flash the opener past New Caledonia U-23 goalkeeper Thomas Schmidt sending the fans from the north into raptures.
Hienghéne, currently sitting in second place in the Super Ligue standings, didn’t once take their foot off the pedal completely dominating their opponent throughout the match.
Captain Bertrand Kai was happy to lead by example, fighting for every ball, pressing constantly and playing with his indomitable and hugely recognisable style.
Kai may have been unsuccessful in the first half with missed chances and bad luck keeping him off the score sheet, but he made up for it after the break.
Receiving a ball crossed in from the left, the 2011 OFC Player of the Year sent the keeper one way as he fired in the opposite direction to extend Hienghéne’s lead in the 67th minute.
It was a scenario that fans then saw reproduced late in the match when a swift counter-attack came to the striker who was perfectly positioned to take on the keeper and score.
Mont Dore, coached by New Zealander Shane Rufer, adopted a 3-4-3 in an effort to reinforce their defence for the match. However the lack of playing time with this structure proved their downfall as they struggled in transition and barely troubled their opponents on offence.
For Rufer it was a disappointing finish but he conceded that “the strongest side won”.
The victory for Hienghene means they will now enter the 7th Round of the Coupe de France, with the side set to learn their French opponent following the draw on 29 October.
