Lautoka can look forward to their first ever appearance in the O-League competition next season after beating Nadi 2-1 on Friday to finish top of the table in the first round of Fiji’s National Soccer League.

The all-important qualification spot in Oceania’s premier club competition gives Lautoka the opportunity to play the top clubs from around the region and have a shot at making the FIFA Club World Cup in 2010.

In a breakthrough season, The Blues have ended Ba’s run of three consecutive appearances in the O-League.

Lautoka vice president and team director Krishna Chandra says the team has achieved its aim of making the O-League but they will need to stay focused for the remaining games in domestic competitions so they ensure a clean sweep.

“I want to thank all the players and officials for their hardwork so far in the season which has resulted in the team achieving the number one spot and qualifying for the O-League for the first time," said Chandra.

“We were confident about our chances and after beating Ba and holding Navua, there was no stopping for the boys.”

“Our first goal of this season was to top the first round and make the O-League and we are happy to achieve it as we now look forward to other objectives which include making a clean sweep this season.”

“The executives, coach and the players in Lautoka are like a family and share a close bond which has kept the spirit and the team morale high and we will try our utmost best to maintain this throughout the season."

Lautoka finished the first round competition on 23 points with 7 wins and 2 draws. They have a protest decision pending against Tavua and the decision if passed in favor of the Blues will extend their lead further on the points table.
