The four-day event was organised by the Fédération Calédonienne de Football (FCF), who joined forces with the Lifou council and local organisation Luecila 3000 to make sure the proceedings ran smoothly.
FCF was represented by futsal and beach soccer development officer Kamali Fitialeata and Philippe Jiane, who oversaw the action throughout the tournament.
Ten U-16 men’s teams and three U-16 women’s sides took part on day one while the rest of the event was open to the public.
Fitialeata was pleased with the numbers that took part and says the future for beach soccer on the island of Lifou is bright.
“This area is ideal for beach soccer and gives us a lot of opportunities,” he says. “The potential for beach soccer to develop here is huge.”
“Many young New Caledonians start playing football on the beach anyway which gives them good technical skills and will be very helpful in the beach soccer discipline.”
