With Kiwi securing the last remaining spot at the 2016 OFC Champions League with victory in the four-team preliminary tournament in Rarotonga, Cook Islands last week, the Samoa club champions will now line up alongside Nadi FC, AS Magenta and AS Tefana in Group C.
Should they advance past the group stage there is every chance Lewis could find himself facing off with 18-year-old son Clayton, who plays for defending champions Auckland City FC.
“We have obviously been drawn in different pools and as nice as it would be to get through I’d rather not come up against Auckland City or my own son,” Lewis says.
“It’s very special to be able to play together at the OFC Champions League though, we have played together before when we had a season together at Wellington Olympic and had a good run at the Chatham Cup.
“Clayton has obviously gone on to bigger and better things with the All Whites since then which is great.
“The possibility of catching up with him at the tournament is a huge bonus, it’s a very proud moment for me and probably for him as well.
“But hopefully I don’t have to face him, it would be an interesting experience if that was to happen though.”
Meanwhile Lewis spoke of his joy at helping Kiwi FC get through to another OFC Champions League campaign, recording a perfect three wins from three games at the CIFA Academy.
“It feels great, we have only been together for just over a week and put a squad together with a bunch of guys from New Zealand and Samoa which made it tough,” Lewis says.
“To get the win and qualify for the next round in April is very pleasing and we are all looking forward to the next step.”
The 2016 OFC Champions League will be held in Auckland, New Zealand from 8-23 April.
