Despite the difference of level and experience between the two teams, AS Pirae assistant coach Samuel Garcia takes this game against Kiwi FC very seriously.
‘’We will take this game as serious as our first. Kiwi FC only lost 2-0 against Waitakere United and they remain a good team who can give us a very hard time,’’ Garcia says.
‘’Samoa has the reputation of being a lower ranked nation of football in the Pacific but Kiwi FC have shown what they are really capable of. The gap between the nations is getting closer,’’ he says.
Impressive for Kiwi FC in their first match of the competition were veteran defender Barry Lewis, 37, and Samoa international Andrew Setefano.
But after the results in the other groups, Garcia insists Pirae have to breach that central defensive partnership and score goals in an efficient performance.
‘’We have to score goals today. I have followed the games in the other groups and it is essential we score in case we struggle against Waitakere,’’ he says
Pirae see the return of two key experienced players in Naea Bennett and Teva Zaveroni.
Bennett and Zaveroni were part of the AS Pirae squad that finished runners-up in 2006 and both played for Tiki Toa during the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup last year.
‘’It is important for us Teva and Naea are here. They are experienced players who played international football their whole careers. They are used to handling this kind of game and these types of competitions’’, he adds.
AS Pirae play Samoa’s Kiwi FC today in the opening game of Match Day 6 of the OFC Champions League 2014 at 1pm local time followed by Waitakere United taking on Solomon Warriors at 4pm.
Both matches are at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

Garcia ‘’Nous prenons ce match au sérieux’’
Co-leader de son groupe l’AS Pirae rencontre Kiwi FC dans ces deuxièmes matches du Group A et prend cette rencontre au sérieux.
Malgré la différence de niveau et d’expérience entre les deux équipes, l’entraineur assistant Samuel Garcia reste vigilant et prend cette rencontre très au sérieux.

Après avoir suivi les résultats des autres groupes, Garcia insiste sur le fait que son équipe doit impérativement marquer pour soigner sa différence de but.
‘’Il va falloir marquer des buts car on a vu le résultat de Amicale (victoire 6-0 contre Nadi). Nous devons mettre toutes nos chances de notre côté en cas de déconvenue contre Waitakere,’’ insiste Garcia.
Pirae voit le retour de deux joueurs clés et d’expérience, Naea Bennett et Teva Zaveroni.
‘’Naea Bennett et Teva Zaveroni sont deux joueurs cadres. Avoir leur présence ici est un plus pour nous surtout au niveau de l’expérience’’
‘’Ce sont des joueurs qui ont joué des matches internationaux tout au long de leur carrière avec notamment la dernière Coupe du Monde de Beach Soccer,’’ conclue Garcia.
Pirae affronte Kiwi à 13h (heure locale) et suivra ensuite la rencontre qui opposera Waitakere United aux Solomon Warriors à 16h. Ces deux rencontres se dérouleront au Churchill Park de Lautoka.
