The five-day long course targeted the Solomon Islands elite coaches, with a special focus applied to the those in charge of teams taking part in the national football league – the Telekom S-League.
All but one of those coaches were in attendance at the course, which has a part-aim of preparing coaches for the next S-League season.
With the quality of football continuously rising, such courses are essential for giving local coaches an insight into modern coaching principles and how to deliver them to their clubs or teams.
Chambaron says the concepts delivered in the course address high level areas of coaching and deal with the role of coaches in the overall organisation they operate in.
The difference between coaching for training and coaching for matches was also a key topic covered.
The coaches underwent a combination of stringent theory and practical sessions. The practical sessions have been designed to assess the caoches’ understanding of the concepts being taught in the different modules presented during the course.
Chambaron says the contributions from participants was excellent and admits he is enthusiastic about the progress that can be made in Solomon Islands through coach education.
“One of the highlights of the course has been the discovery and acknowledgement of areas where coaches need to work harder to achieve their goals,” he says.
“This is important because we can focus on these areas and continually improve our coaches.”
The FIFA MA Senior Coaching Course was held from 14-19 July in Honiara.
