Vanuatu’s Southern Legions FC have stormed into finals contention with a 13-2 win over Gulf Komara FC at the OFC Futsal Men’s Champions League 2025.

Both teams came in chasing momentum, with Gulf Komara still looking for their first win and Southern Legions needing points to stay in the top two race. The match stayed tight early before Southern Legions took control through sharper decisions in transition.

The first goal came after long periods of pressure from both sides, Southern Legions’ Kemly Lehi read a loose pass, won the ball, and powered down court to beat the keeper. Their second came through Jayson Timatua, who calmly slotted home from a loose ball after a free kick.

Confidence grew and Alista Karlip added the third when he picked off a pass in midfield and drove forward to place his shot. Southern Legions pressed high, with their fourth coming from quick passing in front of goal and Ashly Joseph finishing. Joseph scored again moments later, guiding home the fifth after another turnover high up the court.

Gulf Komara started strong through Patrick Aisa and Numa Kila, creating early shots in open space but struggled to find a finish in the first half. They turned on the pressure in the second half, scoring two neat goals to stay in the fight.

But their opponents stayed composed under the pressure from Gulf Komara, scoring a further seven goals in the second half to coast away to victory.

Two players finished with hat-tricks for Southern Legions FC – Jayson Timatua and Alista Karlip. Three other players finished with two goals.

Southern Legions’ big win also sets the record for the most goals scored by a single team in an OFC Futsal Men’s Champions League match, surpassing the 12-goal record previously held by AFF Futsal and Mataks FC.

Southern Legions now prepare for their final group match against Mataks FC as they push to become the first club from Vanuatu to reach the final, while Gulf Komara FC aim to finish strong in their last group match with AS PTT.
