Today we feature Cook Islands U-20 Women’s national team mid-fielder Elizabeth Harmon.
Elizabeth Harmon
Elizabeth Harmon, or known by her nickname Liz to family and friends, is mustering all of her determination to excel equally in football and schoolwork.
Harmon is a student at the Cook Islands biggest school Tereora College where she has established a reputation for giving just as much effort to her schoolwork as she does to her football training.
There is added pressure on Liz to excel as her brother Grover Harmon is a current Cook Islands national men’s football team member and her father is the President of the Cook Islands Football Association.
The 17-year-old is already making all the right moves and her determination, skill and high fitness level saw her win the 2008 CIFA Women’s Football Player of the Year award.
Selection for the women’s player of the year was carried out by all CIFA clubs which submitted the names of their three most outstanding players over the course of the year.
CIFA regulations specify that each club could only nominate players from other clubs and they were not allowed to nominate any of their own players.
National U-20 coach Jimmy Katoa says that Harmon is technically strong, reads the game well in midfield and also has a good instinct for goal scoring. Katoa and the rest of the CIFA technical staff have high hopes that Harmon will continue her already impressive development.
